Gateshead have announced the signing of striker Richard Brodie on a one year deal after he was released by League One side Crawley Town. The prolific frontman has joined his hometown club, after having a trial with Hartlepool United. Brodie’s move to Crawley made headlines in 2010, as the reported £275,000 transfer from York was a record deal between two non league clubs.

He helped Crawley win the Conference in 2011, and then repeated the feat with Fleetwood Town the following year after spending the season on loan at Highbury. It was at York City where he made his name, scoring sixty nine goals in a hundred and sixty five games during his five seasons at Bootham Crescent. He has gone off the boil a little bit since leaving Crawley, but that could be down to the fact that he was loaned out to three clubs in two seasons. Once he is settled back in his native northeast, the goals will surely flow once more, as The Heed try and improve on 2012-13′s seventeenth placed finish.
